    A Question of Rounds?

    Gents,

    Warm regards from humid Houston, Texas!!! Gents, I would like to pose a question to the vet's of BGR who served in the lines throughout the duration of the event....so here it goes....

    On average about how many rounds do you believe you used per day? Also about how many rounds do you believe you used during the whole event?

    I'm just looking for a ballpark estimate here. I also posted the question on the IPW board for those of you who would rather answer it there. http://www.voy.com/201657/

    As I recall, I used about 15-20 per day and around 60 total for the entire event.

      That number sounds about right for my usage as well. However, as a member of the Confederate forces we were the pursuers not the pursued so your mileage may vary depending on your commaders aggressiveness.

          I fired about 10, maybe 15 tops (per day). When I was part of the rear guard I think I fired more than I did during the entire event. Again this is a ballpark figure since most of the time we were running with our backs to the enemy. This was a great event. I still remember it as if it happened yesterday.

            I only fired 10-15 rounds the whole event. And that was only because Joe Smotherman talked me in to bringing a revolver

              I'd play it safe and take around 80 rounds, 40 in your cartridge box and 40 in your knapsack.I fired around 60 rounds and gave another 15 rounds or so to pards that needed them.

                I think of having used 60 - 80, by being in the colors guard.

                  Our platoon served as rear guard most of the time, I think I used on average 15-25 a day. There were only a couple of times where we (Federal force) setteled in for a long fight and for those we had time to build brestworks. Most of the fighting was fast paced; down and dirty and a fast march down the road. I think I brought around 120 round and left with 50 or 60. The wagons were great; you would get rounds of a morning and all extras stayed in boxes on the wagon.
