  • Historical Sketch of the 24th Regiment of Iowa Volunteers

The information I'm posting has already been provided in this forum, but it's pretty well buried. If you didn't know it was there, y0u'd have trouble finding it. Time to bring it back to the surface because it's getting a little late for learning from fat books.

The above is a link in the Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion which points directly to the chapter on the 24th Iowa. It contains much biographical information about every soldier in the regiment. In particular, there's information about state where born, place where enlisted, date when enlisted, date when mustered out, and incidentals like killed, wounded, captured, promoted, deserted and et cetera. Downloading the entire volume onto my computer made it much easier to view these pages than one at a time online.

A quicker loading site has some of the same information about the unit in text format, but it lacks the down and dirty details about individual soldiers. Here's that link : http://www.sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/24th.html
