    Just Puttin Out Some Feelers...

    After talking with Mr. Comber for the last couple of days about making the progression from the events I normally go to more authentic events I've developed the forlorn hope of being able to go to Piney Woods. In the mass of logistics that arise from this, part being how to get my kit in shape in time and part trying to fathom how it would be possible to miss 5 days of school and effectivly not shoot myself in the foot, I decided to start with the basics; transportation. So are there any groups out there going through or near the Cincinnati area? Again, this is more of a pipe dream than anything but I thought I might as well put out some feelers and see what happens.

    I would damned well hope some fellow coming from north to south could stop in or at least offer this lad a spot to drive to where he can pitch in with a carpool effort.

    Enough of us are gear-whores that replacing anything that needs to be swapped out with spares is easy enough.

    Here's a willing man folks. Let's get him lined up for Piney Woods!

      If he is a size 44 coat and 38 trousers I can cover him from top to bottom with everything.

          Food for thought here--I cannot tell your age, but somehow from the comment, I am assuming you are high school age.

          During Banks Grand Retreat, several of the civilian children had similar considerations--fortunately, they were from a state that actually had an 'educational purposes' heading for excused absences from school. They wrote up a proposal that included the historical background and purpose of the event, kept a detailed diary, wrote a paper on the events of the period and their own experiences at the event, and documented the event with sketches, nature collections, and some still photography taken before the event went fully live.

          One of the children won a regional prize with the resulting presentation.

          Depending on rules in your school system, y ou may find a teacher who is also willing to work with this sort of project both as an excused absence and for additional credit.

              Fortunatly my attire isn't completely terrible, there are just a few sutler row items I have that need to be replaced such as...
              Canteen (the one I use now is stainless steal)
              Cartridge Box and strap (which are sutler row and the wrong caliber for my 42)
              My shoes and shirts are sulter row still and some of my mess gear is a bit to shiney to be considered than authentic
              A federal issue blanket

              Other than that all of my stuff is good.

              Yes, I am a senior in high school. My worry, however, is not so much as being able to get off school, ironically enough my history teacher would be the only one with major objections, but more the amount of catching up I would have to do (although I was looking at our calandar and we have that Friday off)

              Again, just kinda seeing what's possible. Thanks for the replies and for helping to try to make this happen, I'll send out some emails later on in the day

                Tim,
                What ever you wear or carry won't be shinny after the third day, so that would make it authentic with wear and dirt. As has been written, make a wish list and see what happens. Hope you can make it.

                  Tim,
                  I am missing midterms for college by going that week. Work with your teacher as I am working with my profs to let them know well ahead of time about this. That way you can make up work prior to going. I remember being a senior in high school and doing my best to go to as many great events. Set the wheels in motion and it will take on a life for itself. What is missing one week of classes, when you can have an experience of a lifetime?

                      Glad to see you giving it a try Tim. As you can see, there is plenty of help available as I had said. I've got Federal leathers out the wahzoo and can outfit you there. Think I've got about 4 Federal canteens too.

                        It's good to see that so many are willing to help. I talked to one of my administrators today and he said as long as my parents can confirm the trip it would be not problem if I missed 4 days. I'd still have to break it to my teachers, one of whom got mad at me for missing one day to visit my brother in college, but I think that can be handled. Again, thanks to all those who have offered advice.
