Just to point out the obvious ...

The history tells us that only 5 companies of the 24th Iowa, numbering 130 men, marched with the brigade into battle at Sabines Crossroads.

We have a rare opportunity to recreate this battalion in the field on a 1:1 scale. We just need 130 men. It is not an unreasonable goal.

For me, this may be the most intriguing aspect of the event so far, to be able to see an actual-sized unit in the field. Typically our 25 man companies and 150 man battalions are derided for being "too small", but in this historic case, it is right on target.

I'm looking forward to being 1 of 130.

    Joe,
That would be fantastic. Imagine gents, how many times do we look at our kits and our weapons prior to an event and say to ourselves "Yes this looks as authentic as I can get".
Well we have the rare opportunity to reach an ACTUAL number for this event.
At High Tide the 1st Minn. reached real numbers and it a thing they will never forget.
    Lets try to do this.
Get registered and lets get to 130!
    Go Hawkeyes!.
    Cheers

I would be "other part of the barrier", but I wish you the best, then I also say...

        Re: 130 men

In support of the posts above I can report today that the International contingent, who will cross the Atlantic for the event, totals 15; 10 Brits and 5 of our French comrades. We may pick up one or two more lost sheep as the start date approaches. Whatever your persuasion, Banks or Taylor, join us for the event of a lifetime!!!!!

            Re: 130 men

Registrations continue to flow in. The chance to bring the 24th Iowa up to historical strength is not one to look past. Pull that Federal kit out and get registered.

The hardy men of the 28th Louisiana will find a spot in the ranks for any stalwarts who seek to represent the footsore Johnnies, so if you'd like to go grey, sign up.

Blue or grey, don't miss out on this event. Time to put all the expensive gear to the use it was designed for and to get a five-day taste of soldiering.

If you are not getting prepared physically it's HIGH time to start. Don't fall out because you weren't ready. This will not be an average event in any way, shape or form. The ground we cover will eat your lunch if you aren't ready to march and carry a pack.

I don't want a soul to miss this because you think you don't have the gear. Send a PM my way and I'll loan what I have or pass you along to the folks heading each battalion.

Frank Aufmuth and Terry Sorchy, along with the men they have appointed to various posts of leadership, are working their tails off to serve you well. Tom and I and the rest of the Ground Hornets are doing a great deal behind the scenes to deliver a unique and challenging event to all who come. The most noble impression in the hobby is a private in the ranks and Tom and I have attempted to put together an event that caters to the man in the ranks, to give a feel for what five days as a combat infantryman in the Red River Campaign might have felt like.

Hope to see hardy men in the tall pines come March.

            Regards,
            Fred Baker

              Gentlemen,

While I sit here cutting trapezoids, I was wondering... How close has the Federal Registrations gotten to recreating the five companies of the Temperance Regiment?
