Re: For the Confederates
I've hesitated to join this discussion as it seems rather to have strayed from Uncle Frank's original post but, to support what he and Uncle Tom have been saying, if you are still debating whether or not to join us in the Piney Woods HESITATE NO LONGER!!!! It will be the event of a lifetime and, unless you're a veteran of BGR, it will be totally unlike anything you've experienced previously; as close to the real thing as it is ever possible to get. If the bedrock belief to being a committed Authentic Campaigner is to replicate and experience, as far as is possible, what "they" experienced (not just what they wore and used) then this event is an absolute must. I realise that many will have problems with the time involved eating in, as it will, to precious vacation days or conflicting with other work/education responsibilities. But I urge you to make a special effort on this occasion. Trust me, you will never regret it.
See you there

Re: For the Confederates
Hmmm, I thought Commissary Banks was supposed to be the one with the Motley Foreign Ranks. However, with a German nobleman like Baron von Aufmuth at the helm, I guess one must expect some diversity in the ranks. Bet you boys wish your countries had supported the CSA after all. You should get the Baron to tell you the story of why he finds himself leading Secesh troops in the field rather than boar hunts on his private game park outside of Baden-Baden.Yours in The Cause,

Re: For the Confederates
The question is not what kind of whiskey goes well with pie, as the answer is obviously any kind. Preferably, one should ask whether or not there will be more whiskey after said pie and whiskey are consumed? But to get to the point, how about rye?

Re: For the Confederates
Shangaloo,
Tom and I will have a 5 gallon jerry can of rye with your name on it at the end of the event. It'll be part of the prervation raffle and only you can buy a ticket for that one.
Be sure you bring something to keep the haints at bay this weekend in Kisatchie.Fred Baker

With rain predicted for Friday night, the bayous should have fresh water for drinking this week-end. Also, the veterans of BGR remember the sandy yellow clay and the gray clay, but this week-end I will introduce the boys to the red gumbo clay! If you have never marched in gumbo clay you will find the experience interesting!Tom Yearby

Dear Richard,
A thousand apologies!!!!!!! I was so focused on not being called an Englishman that your noble nationality escaped my attention. Herewith the Brit recount.

See you there.

ps. I'm actually of Welsh/Irish descent. My ancestors left Cork in 1822 en-route to America but got in a muddle, turned left instead of right and ended up in South Wales!!!

Re: For the Confederates
Fred/Tom/Frank-
Time slipped away, and we (like many) didn't realize registration was closing Feb 16th. Our fault almost....
We are bringing 9 Taters; more than last time, and we wouldn't miss this event for the world. This is our style of event. (We are also looking for like-minded lads to hang tough and stand with us in our company.)
My registration went out today. The troops are rallied. Expect Tater registrations to start flowing in....

Re: For the Confederates
Ah, Tom-
How did I know that was coming? I was actually laughing to myself the other night about the 'incident' and how many times I would end up hearing that at Piney Woods. What a fond memory...
I knew I should never have engaged in the popskull with you Hell-yuns prior to Marmys....
....but I'd do it again.:)Jay Stevens

But expect, some word or possible announcement soon.
Don't want to hijack this thread, but it would be nice to have something for the Iron Men who came to, supported, and completed, such a physically and mentally demanding, and unarguably the deepest soldier and immersion experiences. This is what the hobby is all about.
I know many who still wear there BGR shirts like a badge of honor. Whenever I see that shirt I 'flashback.'

Re: For the Confederates
Bulliet Farm Frontier Whiskey goes best with pie but Old Crow is a truly misunderstood and neglected bird...,
If Piney Woods is anything at all like BGR, the greatest thing that you will come away with is the brotherhood that you form with your comrades. This maty sound funny but I think the best part of the march is the end. Not because it is over, ( I think we were all a little touched with PTSD, Louisiana style after BGR) The end was the best because you could look down the line and KNOW who stood beside you, who endured with you and who took the same memories home.
I can't wait to see you all and I hope to see everyone of you at the finish line!
