    Pictures of Lost Tribes

    The boy's of the 21st were a well behaved and respectable bunch during their service. They really didn't shoot at civilians while on the steamer Die Vernon headed for The Landing. U.S. Grant really didn't get mad at them for this. And two of the boy's in the 21st were not hanged as a result of a murder they did not commit close to present day Lambert Airfield west of St. Louis. They were a nice set of young men not intent on killing any rebels or protecting their homes from "bushwackers". From the tobacco chewing mouth of my Dad who raised fat hogs for 60 years in Northeast Missouri, "When you play with me you want to hold on to your a$% with both hands". Let that be a warning to those who think otherwise. This one is personal for me. Have a great night and sweet dreams!! I will see you in October!!

      Nathan,

      What day were you there last week? I was volunteering there Wednesday, Thursday & Friday -- hands-on rail-splitting demonstration for 2nd graders in front of the Calloway home (the yellow one).

              Great pictures. I am looking forward to the event in October. If there are any Civil War soldiers who are buried in the cemetery that don't have a veteran's grave marker, the SUV can help in procuring, installing and dedicating the markers. A group of us is headed for Norfolk NE on May 9th to dedicate a grave marker to Jim Schumann's ancestor August Buss of the 6th Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes are welcomed to participate in the dedication if your schedule permits.

                  This is gonna be a GREAT event! I'm really looking forward to it. A bunch of us were just out at Boonesfield for our 1856 event. If anyone is interested, I just uploaded some pictures from the weekend here.

                      I am sure it will be a great event for some folks. Especially the Texicans that didn't get their cherry bounce at Marmadukes because some low life ladies snuck off with it. We won't fall for that trick again, and besides, we were nice bushwhackers in 1862, but it will be 1864 and we have had two years to get real mean.

                        I remember at the "Retreat From Bentonville" event some time ago, the ladies stated
                        after the event that we might have been meaner to them ~ be careful what you wish for!
                        I think we can remedy that, and maybe have some fun in the process . . .

                        This is a wonderful site for an event - I am really looking forward to being there again!

                          Yep, that is Hogshit! We had a goodtime around the fire hearing stories about his days on a hog farm. Hog's great-great grandfather was in Company I of the 21st.

                          The bushwackers will be a nice set of men who will treat their prisoners with respect. :sarcastic

                            You are very right on that Von Schuman. I can envision taking cakes and pies while leaving them with the residue of my haversack. Hmm, a nice slice of pie for broken shards of army cracker; that's a fair trade.
