      Re: The Race to Knoxville

      An update from the federals.

      Jim Butler-Overall Commander

      2nd Michigan
      Co.A SCAR-Capt. Sean Cooper Commanding
      Co.G- Dave Thomas Commanding

We have some exciting things in the works. Keep those registration coming in. Make sure to note whether you are Co.A or Co. G for the event on your registration form.
The bread fairy is busy making the bread rations (fresh sourdough bread). There may even be some live chickens running around to supplement those rations (if we can catch them). I can't do much to compete with pies, but I make be able to forage some homemade blackberry jelly that complements that bread to a T. Keep posted for updates.
There will be a couple of work days coming up when it warms up some (probably in March). We will post those dates later for anyone that can come and help. Thanks for all the support you have shown so far.

Armstrong Hill, YES!! I have a buddy with a condo on Cherokee. He's got a great view of Armstrong and the valley below. I can ask him if we can position some sharpshooters out on his balcony. Hell we can even fire up the grill.

Greg, it looks like things are coming along nicely. You and Sean are doing a bully of a job. I wanted to let you know I'm a 100% good to go! Since it conflicted with my wedding anniversary, all it cost me was a 3 hour dinner cruise on the Southern Belle. Participateing inRace to Knoxville with my pards (priceless) Going on a dinner cruise with my wife for our 11th, ( priceless -" but also costs me $275"):D

                            Heath,
I have just finished securing "Fort Neyland", so the sharpshooters on Cherokee Bluff will be very needed. We will also be able to provide seating for nearly the entire Confederate Army (110,000). We can line up the Federal Army on the field for parade.

See all of you gourds on Friday.

                            Eric,

                                Chad,
Although the event is unscripted, we will follow some degree of similarity to the actual race to Knoxville. The majority of the Confederates were just trying to beat Burnside's men to Knoxville. The Federal army occupied most of Knoxville for several months and had ample time to finish what the Confederates had started. The Confederate army did control Cherokee Bluff and used it to harrass the forts on the south side of the river. Longstreet really wanted the forts south of the river (Higley, Dickerson and Stanley). This includes the action at Armstrong Hill. Attempts there failed and the eventually attacked Ft Sanders from the north west.

                                Check out this link http://www.discoveret.org/kcwrt/history/ha-text.htm

So, longstory, I can not tell you at this point. The answer may be no. I will start mass email to the confederate side, before too long, with specifics to our actions and what our orders are as we get closer.

                                Cheers
