Re: Nominate 2010 Event Folders
I would like to put forth for consideration an event I am planning named "The Fight for Crampton's Gap". This event will take place on 800 acres of private land near Blanchardville, Wisconsin (Southwest Wisconsin). This event is on the same land that "Retreat from Bentonville" recently was held on. The land has numerous horseback riding trails that meander through cropland, small streams, a mid-sized river with a ford, marshland, woods, hills, tall grasslands, rock outcroppings, an abandoned Rail Road bed, etc. Nearly every type of geographical feature in southern Wisconsin is on this property. The land is nearly 100% void of modern intrusions.
- The event will take place June 11-13th, 2010.
-This event will be a scripted battle scenerio portraying the fighting of the Maryland Campaign, specifically at Crampton's Gap and just after. Crampton's Gap was apart of the Battle of South Mountain which pitted Franklin's Federal VI corp with nearly 12,000 men against the 2,000 men of Brigader General Howell Cobb. Specific companies which will be portrayed are still being considered.
-There will be an approximately 25 man Confederate infantry company commanded by Jason Reinholz and a 50-60 man Federal infantry company commanded by Steve Acker. The Confederate company will likely be capped at 25 until Federal forces have reached the appropriate size. After this happens others will be added to the US and CS companies at a 2-1 ratio respectively.
-Cavalry will be portraying Munford's Confederate cavalry.
-The Fight for Crampton's Gap brings an authentic 100% immersion event to the Upper Midwest. This event is organized by Dan Chmelar (myself) and is supported by the Old Northwest Volunteers.
