    Re: Nominate 2010 Event Folders

I would like to put forth for consideration an event I am planning named "The Fight for Crampton's Gap". This event will take place on 800 acres of private land near Blanchardville, Wisconsin (Southwest Wisconsin). This event is on the same land that "Retreat from Bentonville" recently was held on. The land has numerous horseback riding trails that meander through cropland, small streams, a mid-sized river with a ford, marshland, woods, hills, tall grasslands, rock outcroppings, an abandoned Rail Road bed, etc. Nearly every type of geographical feature in southern Wisconsin is on this property. The land is nearly 100% void of modern intrusions.

    - The event will take place June 11-13th, 2010.

-This event will be a scripted battle scenerio portraying the fighting of the Maryland Campaign, specifically at Crampton's Gap and just after. Crampton's Gap was apart of the Battle of South Mountain which pitted Franklin's Federal VI corp with nearly 12,000 men against the 2,000 men of Brigader General Howell Cobb. Specific companies which will be portrayed are still being considered.

-There will be an approximately 25 man Confederate infantry company commanded by Jason Reinholz and a 50-60 man Federal infantry company commanded by Steve Acker. The Confederate company will likely be capped at 25 until Federal forces have reached the appropriate size. After this happens others will be added to the US and CS companies at a 2-1 ratio respectively.

-Cavalry will be portraying Munford's Confederate cavalry.

-The Fight for Crampton's Gap brings an authentic 100% immersion event to the Upper Midwest. This event is organized by Dan Chmelar (myself) and is supported by the Old Northwest Volunteers.

        Dan,
You can count me in. This is one of the best sites I have ever done an event on. You couldnt ask for a better location and the event is prepared and carried off right. If your looking for an immersion event for 2010 come join us in Wisconsin.

            Dave:

This issue is being considered separately. Be expecting an open discussion on this soon. The LAST place this should be discussed, if you truly believe in it, is in the thread to decide which EBUFU events will warrant a folder for next year. In other words, why muddle up a discussion about EBUFU with a discussion about mainstream events?

You are welcome to post this question in the 2010 Adjunct Folder here, which is the place for that type of discussion ;):

              Re: Nominate 2010 Event Folders

Thanks Eric for opening this folder,

I'm enjoying seeing the regional and potential national events being mentioned. Events like LBL sound national while Dan Chmeler's event, The Fight for Crampton's Gap, will provide a quality experience for those wanting to travel and those local to the site.

Thus far my vote is for:
              LBL
              The Fight for Crampton's Gap

I would also add my voice to those heralding what promises to be a really fine
event. And this time, I will go Johnny!
This land has a varied topography with endless possibilities for scenarios. And Dan does a
great job putting an event together.
I am already looking forward to it!

                  Re: Nominate 2010 Event Folders

I am going to keep this discussion open until July 1st. At that time, I'll shut it down and the work will begin to come up with up to six folders that will hopefully represent the best we have to offer. To do this, in the Focus Group, we have forty of the best and most experienced individuals from all over the country to dissect, question, debate and select the events.

So, if you are thinking about an event, please keep your comments coming. This is not a formal process, so if people are in favor of a particular event or not in favor, or know about events that are not already listed here, please post them so we can make the best-informed decision as we will refer back to this thread for information.

                  Thanks and keep participating!

Can I post about Wilson's Creek Living History?
This will take place August 6-8, 2010. Our impression will be the Iowa First a 90 day regiment.

We will do the normal NPS living History displays, march throughout the park and sleep on Bloody Hill Saturday night.
Tour the Sweeny Collection (of which the NPS nows owns) and get an NPS tour on Sunday. Although we Iowans and throw in a couple of pukes and we could give the tour.

If this is the wrong place to post this please take this off.

                          Gents-

Is there an event going-on up in the Northeast next year to include our bretheren there? I heard there might be another W'64 style event in New York, but this has been speculation entirely so I have heard.
