    Pickett's Mill Living History 2010

What: This will be a mobile living history event portraying the real-time actions of the 8th Arkansas during the battle of Pickett’s Mill. The event is created with the purpose of raising money for Picketts Mill since its recent cut in funding and storm damage.

When: June 4th-6th 2010. Start time is Friday night at 10pm ending Sunday morning at 10am. Please make arrangements to arrive on time and stay the entire weekend.

Where: Pickett’s Mill State Park. We will be moving over several miles on very hilly terrain. Both camping and march routs will be the same as the 8th Arkansas in 1864.

    Contact: Jordan Roberts- jrobertsga@bellsouth.net

Organization: We will be operating as a two company battalion. The companies will be commanded by Kiev Thomason and Tony Patton. They will be limited to 25 participants each including officers and NCOS.

More information, uniform guidelines and registration to come soon.

Re: Pickett's Mill Living History 2010

I just got back from a hybrid staff study/staff ride at Pickett's Mill last night. It wasn't as cold as the Armory Guards encampment there four weeks ago, but there were a few snow flakes.

The flood damage from last September and other storms is still evident. The bridge on the trail down near Pickett's Mill Creek at the mill site is flipped upside down and downstream. The orange tape showing visitors the detour route is getting faded and torn, but is necessary until repair funds become available. A volunteer work day would accomplish a lot of smaller repairs- there are simply not enough paid employees to get out and do what they would like to do to fix damages.

I will be honored to become a "Josh" for the weekend and give back to this unique park- one of the most pristine battlefields in this nation.
