Monmouth Battlefield
Manalapan, NJ
May 15-16, 2010
The Monmouth event will feature a School of the Battalion training encampment. This offers your unit an excellent opportunity to drill at battalion strength on the grounds of an original Civil War training facility! Camp Vredenburgh was the place where the 14th, 28th , 29th and 33rd NJVI first were introduced to army life.
Our Events Committee has put together a comprehensive program for the weekend which includes a talk from Dr. David Martin,
Vice President of the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield and author of Camp Vredenburgh in the Civil War and a walking tour of the original site guided by Dr. Martin!
The camp will open on Friday afternoon (May 14th) at 3:00 PM for
early set-up.
The public is welcomed for 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday
and from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Sunday.
Confederate reenactors are encouraged to attend dressed as 1860’s period civilians; they can serve as the recruits and cycle through camp to promote authenticity.
We will have Sutlers, and an Authors Tent open for business! The registration fee is $10.00 which includes an Associate Membership in the NJCWHA. For more information, please contact me at tomburke@njcivilwar150.org
