Fell August 10th,at the battle of Springfield…
Yes many a mothers darling son,
Comes home no more-the murderous fray
Was pitiless;Their young lives were
Their country’s; on that fearful day…
We scarcely name one, from the whole
But bless the graves that cover all.
A loyal Band-unparalleled,
In their most consecrated fall,
Two brothers went-brave-noble-true
Now greets but one, the mother’s view…
Thy death young Whippo,binds the chain
That brings us peace and hope again.
