Name: Sic Semper Tyrannis-Camp Lee 2011
When: May 19-22, 2011
Where: Louisa County, Virginia
Sponsor: POC'R Boys/23rd VA Vol. Regt.
What: An immersive recreation of the historic training camp, Camp Lee - as seen on the Outskirts of Richmond ca. Spring 1861.
Why: Historically the original Camp Lee was located within a few miles from the City of Richmond. Due to the relative proximity to the City of Richmond, a unique opportunity exists to recreate both the intensity of an Early-war Military Training Camp and the dynamic interaction these men had with the local Civilian Populace.
Who: This event will have the portrayal of several Volunteer Military Companies, in addition to representing the Civilian Element – which formed the Vital Lifeline of the war-effort.
The following Volunteer Military Companies will be portrayed: Sidney Guard, Brooklyn Greys, Louisa Greys, Mixed-Maryland Company. If the need arises, additional volunteer companies may be added, once the 1st 4 companies have been filled. Military participation will be open to anyone who can meet the guidelines and authenticity standards as set for each respective Volunteer Military Company.
The following list of civilian impressions may include but are not limited to; camp cooks, laundresses, picnickers, merchants, farmers, soldiers aid society, and family members of various volunteer soldiers. Civilians participation will be by invitation only. Civilians are invited to participate for a portion of the event or for the duration of the four day period.
