      Some one is leaking information

You are right Mrs. Lawson. This will be a good one for participants who will come as "The citizens of St. Paul."

Re: Companies at Raising The First Volunteers: April 14-17, 2011

Are there any standards yet beyond civilian dress? Such as weapons, ect. Also looking forward to seeing how the two companies are going to shape up. I know it is early but already looking forward to this one!

Re: Companies at Raising The First Volunteers: April 14-17, 2011

            Jeremy,
We are finalizing the standards and should have them up soon. I am hoping by this weekend.

Each of the two companies will have two officers and will be appointed by the event staff. Each company will have a cap of 40 men and will be living in the Stone Barracks.
Once we get the standards posted you will see how the companies will be structure.:wink_smil

Civilians will be living in hospital.

If you like stone forts this one you don't want to miss.

Re: Raising The First Volunteers: April 14-17, 2011

I will not be attending, since it is about 20 hours away, but I grew up in MN and all my family is still there. My question is, will there be any sort of state wide advertising for this event? I'm sure some of my family would go and be 'taters if they keep getting reminded as the event gets closer.

                Paul,
Sorry to hear that you will not be making the trip to Fort Snelling. For us Minnesotans a 20 hour drive seems short, you might also want to think about flying if thats an option.

No public will be allowed on site only registered reenactors participants

                  Paul,

Knowing the quality of the 33rd Alabama as well as I do, I'm going to make an unusual recommendation.

Time for a group of y'all to seriously consider getting on a plane for this one. It's an easy flight out of Birmingham, often with only one change to an adjoining gate, at a reasonable price. Once there, you are a cab ride to the Fort(you know this, but your prospective traveling companions don't.

I introduced Col Neal to Jim Moffet last fall with a related goal in mind, but this opportunity is priceless.

And, as you fellers look to building a second set of winter quarters, it's worth your while to see how these are utilized on an ongoing interpretive basis.

How you get weapons AND banjos up there is a challenge, but you might just bring your voices and let Moffet supply the instruments.......

Just to add what Mrs Lawson said.

If a lot of people are going to fly in for this event we will be conducting shuttle service to and from the airport

Are the company commanders decided yet? That way we know where we should register so we have an idea where our usual pards might be.

I must ask this question. Why not? I can understand organizers not wanting the public see say a tactical, but for a muster at a historic site near the 150th anniversary?! This would be a fantastic opportunity to show the people of Minnesota that they have a Civil War connection in the state. Hopefully it would even foster an interest in the war in some people, which goes to another thread currently on the forum about recruiting in the hobby. Historic sites supposed to educate the public, not be used as a private playing ground for people in funny clothes.

                              Take care,
                              Bill Backus

                                Jeremy,
Company commanders have not been announce yet. I can tell you that if you want to register I would suggest you register under Company H.
We can always move people around later.
