Re: Imprisoned on the Frontier: the 8th US Infantry at Fort McKavett November 18-20 2011

Annette, thank you for the offer and I will keep that in mind as the trip planning starts.

I have my annual Mess meeting this Saturday and want to try and get a few pards to make the trip with me. I know the event is still almost a year away but is there any info on start and end times? Having that info early will help plan this long distance trip easier, maybe even get a flight at a cheap rate early.

      Jeremy,
The event would start Friday morning with the POWs marching 2-3 miles being escorted by mounted Texans to the site and end Sunday at 11 am.

All ladies in Houston and surrounding counties who have cloth on hand, which they can spare, are requested to donate it to the ladies of Crockett for the purpose of making petticoats for the Minute Men of this county, who have "backed out" of the service. We think the petticoat more suitable for them in these times.

Jeremy, Right now I am planning on taking my horse down along with likely another. I will probably have room for two in my crew cab truck if you want to stop in Iowa on your way down.

Bump, so that this event won't get buried in mix.

            Folks:
Have any of you found the lists of weapons issued to the frontier Federals and Texicans on the frontier? I have a rifle definitely issued to a US company in West Texas and am trying to figure out which company of the Mounted Rifles ended up with it.

              David,
What model is it that you have on hand?

If you can send me the particulars and photos if you have them to: cody.mobley@thc.state.tx.us I'll help you narrow it down.

Registration for this event will open in just over two weeks.

The registration fee for this three day event will be $15.00 (check or money order) or $16.00 through Paypal.

If you are thinking about attending this event and are wanting to look at airfare, local airports are:
San Angelo, Tx (~1hr 15 min north)
Austin, Tx (~3hr 30 min east)
San Antonio, Tx (~2 hr 30 min south)
Dallas-Fort Worth, Tx (~4 hr northeast)
                Houston, Tx (~6 hr southeast)

The site is located 68 miles south west of the geographic center of the state of Texas, in the Texas Hill Country. The drive from Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, or San Antonio is a very easy one to make, mostly rural areas, over beautiful country.

A link to the printable registration form will be posted on the event website: https://sites.google.com/site/impris...efrontier/home on Feb. 1, 2011.

I hope to see yall in November.

Wouldn't be a bad one to attend. Has all the right elements.

The site is excellent and historic. The scenario presents an interesting slice of history. I look forward to attending.

As do I. That part of Tejas is truly God's Country.

I hope that many of the fellers who have come to events like BGR and IPW will come out and support Marse Mobley.
