    Arrival of more Mississippi troops.
--Five more companies from Mississippi--the "O'Connor Rilles,""Coonawa Rifles,""Calhoun Rifles,""Iuka Rifles," and the "Pontotoc Minute Men,"--about five hundred strong — arrived in this city yesterday, and, together with the companies which arrived Wednesday, composed the Second Regiment of Mississippi. They are under command of Col. Faulkner, all of them well armed, and are composed of the same kind of brave men who did such terrible execution at Buena Vista, and by whom the fate of that battle was decided.-- Lynchburg Republican, 10th.

Re: Richmond Daily Dispatch - May 11th 1861

From an article in the Richmond Daily Dispatch on May 17th- On Southern troops gathering at Harpers Ferry-

“The variety of uniforms to be met with at Harper' s Ferry is almost endless, embracing more styles than the "Regulation" book has recorded for a half century, and presenting nearly every shade of colors. It is evident, however, that the pompons ideas of old tie-wig Europe, that a soldier should be literally "dressed to death," have been effectually exploded, and that a more utilitarian and comprehensive view of the requirement of the soldier now prevails. This is observable in the increasing popularity of the simple flannel shirt worn a la Garibaldi, and for the loose hunting shirt. A very large portion of the Virginia troops at Harper' s Ferry are uniformed with the former, while not a few sturdy farmers may be seen with no other dress than their home-manufactured homespun or Kentucky jean.”
