Re: Shiloh AAR
I have not experienced anything in this hobby that I could compare this weekend to. The Standard just keeps on rising.
I was able to share this weekend with my oldest son. This was his first WIG event. While traveling home, and after we found a grocery store for him to catch up on his sports diet, I asked him how he enjoyed the weekend?
He replied it was good...and then there was silence. Five minutes later he said...Dad, we walked up and down that hill at the grave yard 6 times. We marched and marched only to stop in the sun. We marched around a field when we could have marched across it. There was never enough water. No one knew what those bugle calls meant. No one ever told us what was going on, and we took the boat ride in the dark. Saturday night we only got two hours sleep, woke up and sat around for 4 hours and we slept on the rock side of the wall, when we could have slept on the grass side.
I told him, PRIVATE you are right, and welcome to the Civil War.
**Special Note, a while after he did say, it was cool when everyone cheered us when we marched by**
