  • National Event- Shiloh

    All,
While this event is a considerable time off, I wanted to go ahead and get it on some folks minds. While I certainly enjoy what the EBUFU events have to offer, I think it's time this side of the hobby got back to some basics. After some communication with the commanders of the event, I was granted permission to put together a Campaigner Battalion. If you are interested in raising a company of at least 25 men for this effort, please feel free to contact me.

SPECIAL CALL TO MUSICIANS- In conjunction with our effort Robert Melville has agreed to put together a fife and drum corps. A website with further information will be out soon, complete with some unit histories, guidelines etc.

    Dates: March 31 to April 2, 2012

    * Identified unit impression- "Bloody" 6th Mississippi
    * Impression guidelines based on historic data- Currently working to develop the guidelines. However, it will be in line with most early war guidelines (IE- Frocks, civilian attire, homespun garments etc)
    * Established organization and structure with reasonable goals for numbers- The Event Hosts (Cleburne's Division) has given the Independent Rifles the opportunity to raise a regiment for this event.
    * Traditional EBUFU activities: Rations will be issued, battalion drill, guard mount etc. details are being worked out with the overall organizers but we are going to be used "heavily" throughout the weekend.

There is a great book called "Going to Meet the Yankees" by H. Grady Howell that is THE book to read on the 6th Mississippi through the war. I highly recommend anyone to read this book and enjoy!

Historical information is still coming together for the event, which will proceed as planned. I'm going to stop by today at the Nashville show and talk with H Grady Howell about the uniforms of the 6th at the time of Shiloh a bit. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me. Also, if you are interested in raising a company for this effort and can field a minimum of 25 guys, drop me an email.

            Cullen,
Thanks for the support. Some information is going to be coming out soon about a federal contingent at this event that will involve a lot of our friends as well. So the people attending Shiloh will have the option of doing something very interesting in terms of a federal contingent, something never seen before, and/or portraying a good (hopefully battalion) of Confederate troops.

Ah, keep up the work and if you get this while at the show tell Grady Howell hello. Talked with him two weeks ago. Grady has some great info on the 6th MS Inf. Walked their route many a time. Hope to be there in 2012.

Please keep the comments focused upon this effort by Mr. Landrum to raise a Confederate battalion for this event. I've deleted one post, and the above post is borderline. Please refrain from hijacking this thread with questions about what could, might or ought to occur on the Federal side for this event.

                  Pat,

I hope I can be a part of this effort in some capacity. I'm just wondering: What are we gonna do with all of our casualties on the first day? I am prepared to bloat but only if it's good weather!

Folks, if you are interested in doing a Federal presence at this event, feel free to start your own thread about it. It would be a great thing to do but not on this thread which is about a CS effort. Your cooperation is appreciated.

And Pat- the dates you gave run Sat-Mon. I'm figuring this is the usual Fri-Sun event? As such we'd be looking at March 30-April 1.
