  • Sesquicentennial event at Fort Donelson February 10-12 2012.

150th Anniversary of the Battle of Fort Donelson.

Fort Donelson NPS has allowed us to host a Sesquicentennial event February 10-12 2012.
John Walsh of Fort Donelson Relics and myself are the host and contacts for any questions.

We will be representing Col. Head’s brigade which included the garrison units 30th Tenn, 49th Tenn and 50th Tenn, Water Battery Heavy Artillery, Maury's Tennessee Battery Light Artillery. With this said we have an opportunity to drill at the Water Battery with almost a full compliment of soldiers. I don’t think this has been done since the war.

The other part of our program will be retracing the movements of the brigade after the River attack.

    Limit-100 man limit

Guidelines- Uniforms, weapons, accoutrements and tents will be discussed at a later date.

Weather – The weather can be extremely cold and wet. If you plan to do join us be aware that we will have this program regardless of weather.

Public- We will be representing the NPS and they have high expectations of anyone who represents them. Please be willing to talk with the park’s visitors. This is main reason for wanting people of A.C. quality.

Requests- If you or your mess would like to represent one of the named units we will try our best to accommodate you if the numbers of people register will allow it. We will need full crews for the water battery program.

Registration- Registration will open in October.

    Contacts-Jerry Ross@ Jerryrosssgt@hotmail.com or pm

    John Walsh@ jwalsh@fortdonelsonrelics.com or pm

Mods -Thank you for all the help getting some things straight about this event .

    Jerry,

You can count myself, and many of the other usual criminals I associate with, anxious to participate and willing to help out in any way we can.

We're looking forward to returning to Ft. Donelson.

          Jerry,
If you need any of the equipment the IR has, let me know. Fort Donelson in 2006 was certainly one of my favorite events and was the second event the IR hosted as a group.

I am headed up there in the morning for the annual Ft D anniversary living history.
So this event is the week before the usual anniversary programs in 2012?

                Hey Craig,

No, this event will be the weekend of the usual anniversary programs. The park approached me about doing two of the 150th events {Sept & Feb}. I am hosting a mainstream event in Sept, I teamed up with Jerry to do the Feb event and make it an authentic event.

We are putting forth a good effort to make this a great event.

                        Thanks fellas ,
We are hoping to make in memorable to all involved. Like John said there will be many events through out the next few years there. As while as many other parks . I am glad to hear so many are interested.

Spoke to Park Historian Jimmy Jobe this weekend, the Union camp will be the next weekend, Feb 18-19, 2012.
Might be fun to do both! It was 70 degrees Sunday, but you never know what to expect out at Ft Donelson in February.
For entertainment, a couple guys we all know and are beloved left their gear a little too close to their fire pit. Believe it
or not, straw will catch fire if you drag a burning ground cloth across it.

                            Craig,
I have been there on the anniversary and the flowers are blooming with snow all around them. The weather can change in hours and that happen during the days of battle.

I've been at LBL between Forts Donelson & Henry on New Years Day when it was 70 and seen -2 one night on the anniversary, there's a wee bit of variety in the weather. :)
