    Re: Uniform Guidelines

    Gents,
As to the Issue Domet shirt is there a color preference?

The domet flannel issue shirts were all one color, white. The contract variant issue shirts ranged in several different flannel colors from blue, red, gray and brown/tan.

What Lewis clarifies is true, and for The Grand Adventure you can wear which ever color Federal woolen issue shirt you have.

          Re: Uniform Guidelines

I'd like to point out that most of the blue contract variant shirts appear to have been eastern or New England state issue or part of Alexander Lane's (Philadelphia) contract in February 1864. Early western Federal portraits show a good number of contract shirts ranging from light to medium colored in both mixed and un-mixed yarns, likely in the off-white/light tan to medium gray range.

            Re: Uniform Guidelines

The initial message recommends the waist belt have a leather loop but will accept a brass keeper. I hadn't thought about this distinction before.

I'm interested in learning about the reasons for this standard, ie: did certain units issue these types of belts (such as 12th Iowa), were brass keepers a late war idea, Eastern vs Western Theater, did this apply to US as well as CS?

            Thanks for your reply.

                Chris,

The leather loop was an early war feature. That's the reason.
