    After you read the info on the webpage at www.surrenderofsecession.com this info may provide a bit more detail or updates to that info with monthly updates:

    Surrender Jan 2012 event update/info:
    - Registration has opened. We already have 15 registered participants.
    _ Note, that you must have an approved role from Linda Nyland svarvar@bellsouth.net (ladies) and Jim Butler unionguy1@comcast.net (men). Even those who attended last year must email their role (or their intention to repeat their role).
    - Cooks are need and if you can cook and wish to help in a cooking group, please contact Beverly Simpson.
    - Those who attended the 1863 event can hold their role until April 1st, 2102. At that time their role is open to whoever is approved first.
    - Paid registration locks in your role.
    - Early registration ends Aug 30th, 2012 and is $35 ($20 children ($20 child w/adult).
    - Late registration closes Oct 1st, 2012. No walk-ons, no unapproved roles. No substitutions. No refunds.
    - When you register please let us know what day and approximate time of arrival. This is for food planning purposes.
    - I encourage you to provide me your age on registration. This is to assign you a person from the census who bets matches your age.
    - After you register a confirmation email will be sent to you. This will include your first person census persona, census data and building assignment.
    - The persona will be pulled from the 1860 census data from Stewart Cty, GA (Lumpkin district). This will also include family and others living with you, rela estate and property values. We will adjust these for 1865, so this will info will have changed.
    - All registered participants will be provided a link and access to a Yahoo Discussion Group. This is only for registered participants. FB will only be used to issue information and basic questions. For in-depth discussion you will need to be on the Yahoo Group.
    - Sign will be in the Damascus Church near the Village gate and Gift shop (as it was last year). Sign-in will only be open at certain times. If you arrive when they aren't open just find a place to set-up or rest at your camp/building until they re-opn to get your sign-in package.
    - All horses need Coggins papers and must also sign in with the equine coordinator Patrick Peterson. All Federal cav should NOT be in the village until after occupation. All Fed cav shoudl report to the Fed camp in the field across the street from Westville.
    - When you sign-in at the event you will receive a sign-in package with period name, family info, your goals, any needed period paperwork and for a few, some Greenbacks or old Westville currency.
    - A chart will be posted at sign-in indicating what cooking group you are assigned to and major vignette assignments.
    - The event goes live Thursday morning at 8 am. You are welcome to come early on Wednesday, but this is a set-up day. You can arrive at the event as late as Friday at 7 pm. But, you will get the BEST experince out of the event if you arrive by afternoon Thursday. Please also see vehicle access times.
    - Civilians can bring a period cot, mattress tick, table, chairs. But, should avoid bringing too much furniture. We really encourage you to get a period mattress tick (if you don't have one). But, if you do not, you can bring a modern foam pad to sleep on (please keep it covered in a period blanket) This MUST be stowed away during the day. Tentage allowed to the Federals is limited to a shelter tent/small fly.
    - There is access to bring vehicles into the village at set times ONLY (see wegpage). Vehicles will not be let into camp from Fri 5 pm till Sunday 1 pm. A wagon/teamsters for hire will also be available for non-access times.
    - ALL Federal soldiers MUST stay out of town prior to occupation!
    - After sign-in, Federal soldiers should park and proceed directly to the Federal camp in the field across the street from Historic Westville.
    - NO Outside food is allowed (unless approved for dietary or small children needs).
    - You will find you may need to complete your goals or find a job during the event or you won't earn any Greenbacks to purchase food for your cooking group.
    - Currency values will be:
    silver coin = $15 actual
    $1.00 Greenback = $10 actual
    .20 cent postage currency = $2.00 actual
    .10 cent postage currency = $1.00 actual
    - Federal soldiers will be issued period rations and cook on their own.
    - Please plan to come and engage in the period activities of the period as you have agreed to upon the approval of your role and invitation. This is not a 'do-nothing' and 'hang-out' event.
    Terms:
    'Role': The occupation, goals, skills and apperance that will take on as your first person persona for the event.
    'Vignette': A pre-scripted, planned dramatic period event. This usually is planned for the public to view and also for our own entertainment.
    'Scenario': same as 'vignette'
    'Greenback': US currency. This and a few pieces of specie will be what is of value at Westville.
    'Persona': The person you are pretending to be for the event. The as 'First person role'
    'First person role': same as 'Persona"
    'Census data': This wil include a persons name, age and occupation from the 1860 census
    'Westville, GA': The fictitous town we live in for the event. We use Lumpkin, GA as the model for our town.
    'First person': acting, speaking and playing out a persona from a certain time period.
    'Reenactor Refuge': A Refuge camp for those who wisht o camp outside of the village. All tentage must be period tents. This area is also a non-first person area. This is the only place you can be out of first person during the event.

    jim- try the registration link and see if it works for you; i keep getting some Chinese/Japanese page when I try to open it.
