On June 16th and 17th, 2012, Vicksburg National Military Park will be commemorating the 150th anniversary of arrival of Admiral Farragut's squadron on May 18th, 1862, and his subsequent bombardment of the town that "refused to learn how to surrender."
We are looking for navy and marine living historians to rendevous at and crew the USS Cairo gunboat that weekend for general programs on life aboard naval vessels during the Civil War, nautical skills demonstrations, landing parties, etc... If you are not a sailor or a marine, but have developed an impression or educational/historical program that can be connected to this historical event in a meaningful way, we would be glad to hear your proposal and include you in the program if possible.
Please contact me, David Slay at david_slay@nps.gov for further information.
