What to expect:
Surrender of Secession – Westville, GA 1865 will be a 77 hour, advanced, first-person, immersion event. Keep in mind that many activities/trades/roles present inherent risks, as is true in most military and civilian events. These risks include, but are not limited to cook fires, firearms, knives, hatchets, tools, horses, mules, wagons, 19th c. machinery, etc. There is no guarantee that your 21st century sensibilities won’t be offended by an immersive 19th c. environment of a rural, South Georgia town in late 1865. As in real life, if you cause trouble or invite trouble…trouble may find you. This may subject to arrest, search or premises, fine, detainment, etc. You can not stir up trouble or find offense in the middle of a first person moment and then call a ‘time out’ to g...et out of it. You may call a ‘timeout’ but after a few moments of private discussion, the event goes back live and you suffer the consequences. Note, that ALL personal property is OFF LIMITS unless pre-scripted as part of a vignette. If you wish to avoid any encounters at night, I welcome you to stay in the Reenactor Refuge after lights out. You can also take a break during the day and go to the Refuge as well to step out of first person. You agree to not bring outside food (unless preapproved). Food will be provided thru cooking groups that will prepare period meals in only period methods. All participants agree to follow the posted guidelines on the website at www.surrenderofsecession.com
We expect everyone to use common sense, act safely and maintain respect for your fellow reenactors while still recreating a 19th c. moment in history.
Thanks,
Jim Butler
