If you have attended an authentic event or adjunct in the West over the last ten years, you are surely familiar with the effort and experience Pat Landrum has given to so many of our events. Pat works very hard on all of his events so that folks can come out and walk away with a quality living history experience. With that, I have taken it upon myself to give him a break, in a manner of speaking. I will be handling communications for Co. G, 24th Illinois for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Perryville. All decisions made regarding the company with come from the Battalion Staff and from Lt. Landrum, but I will be the one communicating it to the company.
I have a long history with Perryville. I was twelve years old when Dad took me there for the first time. We went on a weekend in which there was no event and were no visitors, slept in a shelter half on Starkweather Hill, walked the field, and enjoyed a delicious breakfast on Merchant’s Row. Quite a bit has changed at Perryville in sixteen years. If you do not follow the Civil War Trust, I would encourage you to take a look at any one of the several articles dedicated to preservation efforts at Perryville and see how much has been accomplished to help make this great site even better in recent years. And it is also important to mention that few sites have folks that are as dedicated as Kurt Holman and Joni House.
If you are interested in attending this event with the 24th Illinois Adjunct, feel free to contact me about Co. G. It goes without saying that it is a rare opportunity to participate in an event of this scale on the actual battlefield. And, if you have never been to Perryville, you are DEFINITELY missing out!
