    Re: Chickamauga, Kershaw's Birgade

    If any of you can put up with Rednecks, Cajuns and Creoles, the 16th LA is forming a company in 2 SC INF. Andrew Piquet is cooking.

      Registered for Co. F Old Guard, same company at Manassas, Shiloh, Antietam but could not make it due to work. Now Chickamauga, got jacket now need kepi and blue trousers. Having Kepi made and not sure about trousers. If you like Shiloh as 15th Iowa Inf. you will love this.

          Is anyone still able to make the Blue/Grey Kersey Kepi still? I have my RDII, and passed on the pants, but was entertaining the thought of the kepi (and if so, how much)? I saw Dan W. was out of the material....

              Gentlemen,

              Some history for the foodies...

              Sept. 17th - Stopped in Millen, GA; supper was fed to the troops in a "large dining hall."

              Sept. 18th - Atlanta to Marietta; local girls turned out in large numbers.

              "The young ladies passes out food to the hungry soldiers including sandwiches, drumsticks, pound cake and wine."; "A group of the Camden Volunteers...were too embarrassed by their appearance to come down from the top of the flat car. Lying flat on his stomach with only his head peaking over the edge,..called down to the women who responded by sending some baskets of food."

              Sept. 19th - De-trained near Ringgold; issued full supply of cartridges and then marched four miles toward Ringgold;

              "The men 'loafed about,' waiting for rations...About sunset, the food arrived, and hungry soldiers started fires to cook cornmeal and bacon."

              Sept. 19th-20th - The men made a night march toward the battle; not arriving almost until sunrise on the 20th.

              Sept. 20th (Post Battle) - Captured Federal rations;

              "They feasted on canned beef, ham, and crackers...and some filled their haversacks with food to the bulging point."

                Period and ample rations being provided for the men of Kershaw's Brigade.

                Payment $15/ head to Joe Caridi covers the rations costs.

                We're looking to start final projections, purchase materials in bulk, and begin packaging of items for the event.

                      Thats could be the those Eastern European ladies of the evening who wanted to join the facbook page. But it could just be spending money to support the 'loafed about" part of the impression.

                                I thought in all the food ration was well thought out and liked the CS Friday Night aspect and the Captured US Saturday night issue. In practice however... I never got to eat the Friday rations due to an oversight by my Sgt who forgot to give me any (Despite the fact that I was detailed to cooked a portion of it). On Sunday, the canned beef was great. Nobody in my unit bothered with anything else to my knowledge. We were just too wet, cold, and tired to be bothered with cooking and eating. I managed to snag some of the des. veggies in a poke sack for future use. I will try to remember to post when I get to sample them.
