Sorry if this is in the wrong spot, but here goes.

Is anything going on in Appomattox for the 150th of the surrender? I feel that surely there must be.

Kurt, I really only know of campaigner oriented efforts for Bentonville (10th Iowa) and Sailor's Creek. (Crutchfield's Brigade, CS and 121st New York, US) There is something going on at the park in April, but nothing authentic/campaigner/progressive, etc has reached me. Perhaps contact the NPS site and see what they have in the works?

      Re: Appomattox 2015

Appomattox NPS sent a limited number of invitations for the stacking ceremony long ago to various battalions. The site demanded limitations in participation as there wasn't sufficient bivouac space for all the people who would want to be there.

An Appomattox themed mainstream battle reenactment with zero standards and zero effort to limit ratios is planned. I won't mention it by name, but if you liked 150th Manassas and like 150th GAC, you'll love this stem winder. If you're not into Reb-fests, the only other options in Southside Virginia are Sailor's Creek and Pamplin Breakthrough. Bentonville, which bills itself as the largest battle reenactment in North Carolina, is the other remaining choice. A big Federal adjunct is planned for that.

150th Sailor's Creek: Expecting to see registrations maxed out for this event.

The event has a website (http://www.150thsailorscreek.com/), it will be located on ORIGINAL GROUND W/ OPPOSING FIELDS OF FIRE, CAMPAIGN ONLY, PERIOD RATIONS (for Crutchfield's and 121st NY). Event promises to be a fitting conclusion to the excitement of the Sesquicenteniel (sp.) series of events.

For what it's worth, the 1st Maine Cavalry is hosting the Federal Cavalry portion of this event. We've got some slots left for registration and we'd like to fill them up with quality folks looking to represent the boys of 1865 in style. There is no better time to be federal cavalry than the spring of 1865!

          Take care,

Kurt- I see you are from Canada. If you come down the week prior to the Sailor's Creek to the VA/NC area, the 10th Iowa Bentonville Campaign Adjunct (Mar 20-22) can be reached relatively quickly if you want to do some driving and sightseeing. Might be able to make a week or so of it, do Federal at Bentonville and Confederate at Sailor's Creek (or vice versa as you prefer, any side you go with Sailor's or Bville, you will have a fun, educational time)! Always good to hit a few sequential events when in an area when you are from far elsewhere.

-Original Grounds of the final defeat of Johnston's Army
            -7-9 mile road march
-Campaigner camping in the remains of earthworks where the Federal Army camped prior to the battle
            -Large-scale battle
            -Sutlers nearby for gear shopping
-Last authentic adjunct of the 150 cycle before it ends in April.
-200-man regiment so far with wagons, commissary, color guard, regimental surgeon, and working on music section

            Adjunct webpage and register: http://www.bentonvillemarch.com/register/

We'd love to have you for Co B. :)

              Re: Appomattox 2015

The events at the NPS starting on April 8th were capped at 200 Confederate Infantry. There were three Progressive units invited by the NPS to fill these slots, two of which have been doing the LH on site for the last five years. I maintain affiliation with one of these units for attending more mainstream events.

Yes, there is a purely Streamer event being put on that same week at a nearby industrial area. The two events are completely unrelated.
