Military: 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry
Civilian: Citizens of St. Paul and further afield in Minnesota seeing their Regiment return home from war.
Description:
On July 20th, 1865, the veteranized 2nd Minnesota Volunteers Infantry mustered out of service at Fort Snelling. It was almost 4 years prior that they had left Fort Snelling to begin an adventure they would never forget. We plan on recreating the welcoming home festivities and mustering out ceremony that took place 150 years prior on July 18th – July 20th, 1865.
Soldiers will arrive at the Fort with a great salute from the citizens of Minnesota. Parades and Reviews will be conducted during the day on Saturday and into Sunday, while citizens come out to the Fort to “see and be seen” and greet the returning heroes. Saturday night soldiers will be given a grand feast or (fete’) hosted by The Ladies of St. Paul. Sunday the 2nd Minnesota Volunteer Infantry will say goodbye to the Army and go home.
It will be a weekend of great revelry!
