A prior post from Ivan early in the game still holds true : prepare for whatever. We have the advantage of the internet. We can look ahead and determine what we need for a weekend. Joe Volunteer didn't have that luxury. What he carried is what he carried. A blanket, a gum, a shelter half and some rope will serve you well for most weather just as it did for him. A wool issue shirt is your friend for any kind of weather. Same goes for a change or two of wool socks. Be prepared, but don't hump more than you can carry.
Regardless if it is going to be cold, hot wet or dry. We should be preparing our kits for campaign and not for what we think the weather is going to do.

Yes, it will be a deluge... a glorious downpour and we will be soaked down to our bones. And as has been said many times before... Embrace the Suck!
Warm and r___ are good... wet with cold, bad... ;)

I have to echo that. This work week is dragging as I continue to stare at my pile of gear ready to be loaded in the truck.
Ha! Isn't that the truth. I am sitting in my office, staring at mundane legal work that should be (but isn't) getting done and day dreaming about challenges, counter-signs and grand guards...
My gear is already shined, packed, checked... ready to be loaded in the truck. I do my gear layout for all events usually 3 weeks prior so I know if I am forgetting something, something needs to be replaced, or something does not need to be taken. Guess it is just the Army in me still... ;)
