Forty Rounds Events proudly announces our next adventure. We hope you will join us in portraying the following.
What: The Battle of Wauhatchie, TN. Part of the opening phases of the Lookout Mountain campaign in October of 1863, the battle pitted Hooker's Corps against Longstreet's at the base of Lookout Mountain. The battle was fought by Eastern troops who had been sent to the Western Theater.
This battle is unique in that it was fought entirely at night, one of the rare few deliberately conducted night attacks of the war. We will recreate this battle as an EBUFU event; no spectators, no external distractions.
When: October 27-29, 2017
Where: The property upon which the Fort Sanders events were held in Eastern TN, near Knoxville. We will recreate the Rowden farm and environs to set the stage for this battle.
Who: Federals will be commanded by Ivan Ingraham and Brian Hicks as the Brigade command team portraying Greene's Brigade, Geary's division, 12th Corps. This is the New York Brigade consisting of the 78th, 137th, and 149th NY. Battalions will be raised and commanded as follows:
78th NY--Herb Coats
137th NY--Will Eichler
149th NY--Bob Minton
Brigade staff will also have Joe Beedle as AAG and Rob Murray as Chief of Staff.
Federal artillery will portray Knap's Pennsylvania Battery E, commanded by Major John A. Reynolds.
Federal artillery coordinator is Dave Thomas of Starr's Battery.
CS Forces will be commanded by Tyler Underwood portraying Jenkins' South Carolina brigade. Might be a good time to dust of your English Army Cloth! He will post his Battalion Commanders and associated leadership soon.
How: Route marches, campaign living, and a full battle scenario conducted at night in an environment not typically recreated.
More information will be coming in the following 17 months to include website, impression guidelines, registration and other communications, but for now, please start looking at the history of the battle and you will have plenty of options for participating.
If you want to raise a Coy, please contact the Battalion Commander of your choosing. As you go forward at other events over this year and next, each time your unit takes the field is a great opportunity to get your drill and firing sequences down to rote. You will need to be extremely good at drill and loading and firing to do it safely at night. Do not underestimate the proficiency that will be required for this event; there is plenty of time to prepare.
Stay tuned....
