  • Palmetto Sharpshooters - Battle of Wauhatchie

    Good morning,

I am happy to be raising the Palmetto Sharpshooters (PSS) for the Battle of Wauhatchie. The PSS served a pivotal roll in the engagement attacking the Federal right with the 2nd SC. After the 2nd SC broke and fell back the PSS were reinforced by the 6th SC and continued to push the Federal right flank along the railroad line until the order arrived to withdraw. The PSS were chewed up by enfilading artillery fire and heavy rifle fire during the battle. As the PSS we will be recreating a key component of the night engagement.

I want us to raise a minimum of four solid companies with six being ideal. As of now the command structure is as follows with invitations extended for remaining positions. If you are interested in raising a company please let me know. We would love to have you in the PSS. This following list will be updated as remaining company commanders and staff are confirmed.

    Battalion Commander - John Wickett

    Adjutant - Bridger Zedina

    Sgt Major - Dave Stieghan

    Bugler - Cole Adkins

    Wing Commander - TBD

Company A - James Sturckler / Backwash Mess - Facebook Page
Company B (Color Company) - Johnny Lloyd / SCAR - Facebook Page
    Company C - Leonard Bowling/ Palmetto Rifles
    Company E - Bridger Zadina / AoP
Company K- Alan Eney/Spartan Guards - Facebook Page
Company L - Will MacDonald / Confederate Guards - Facebook Page; Historical References & Info

Again, if you would like to raise a company please let me know. Several companies are pending final verification by potential Commanders.

We will be sending out initial guidelines within the a week and will refine them as appropriate based on continuing research. Company designations may change as we fill out the battalion.

Please let me know if you have any questions during the initial planning phases of this event. I am greatly looking forward to this event and portraying the men of the Palmetto Sharpshooters!

I am happy to announce that Matt Young will be serving as our Adjutant. Matt, brings a wealth of experience to the battalion and we are thrilled to have him on board. Again, if anyone is interested in joining the battalion in the ranks or raising a company please let one of us know. We will find you a home or gladly accommodate your company.

Moderators, please update the Adjutant slot in the original post with Matt Young. The edit feature is not working for me at the moment.

I'm thrilled to have been asked. Part of my real life job is research so I will try to do as much as I can to inform everyone about the PSS before the event. Thanks again.

We are happy to have Alan Eney and his men joining us as Company K, the Spartan Rifles! A fine addition to the battalion.

If anyone else is interested in raising a company please contact me directly. I would like to fill out the battalion with one or two more solid companies.

                  Thank you!

Can't wait to drive down with the gang and see the long line of kersey uniforms pushing through the blue backs captain.
