GENERAL ORDERS REGARDING COMMISSARY FOR FT. BLAKELY
Gentlemen: First, there will be no official battalion Commissary service for the battalion. Individual companies will carry out all commissary functions. The staff encourages companies begin planning now how they will prepare the rations they will be issued; companies may assign specific personnel to prepare rations for the weekend, or leave it up to individual squads/platoons. If companies choose individuals permanently assigned to prepare rations, the staff encourages the number of these individuals to be confined to 1 or 2 soldiers considering most companies are small.
Below is a tentative list of the ration issue.
Cornmeal
Field Peas (the black-eyed variety)
Onions (yellow and green)
Venison
Beef skirt steak
Ham
Coffee
Condensed Milk
Salt
Pickles
Sugar
Potatoes (the small variety)
Peanuts
Peaches
Catsup
All non-perishable rations will be issued Friday afternoon/evening. Rations will be issued in period containers (poke sacks and bottles). These period containers are property of the Independent Rifles and we humbly ask companies return these containers to headquarters before departing Sunday Morning. Regarding the perishable items, companies may draw these (meats) Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday.
