Ronnie, contact either Jeremy Bevard or Herb Coats. They are the battalion commander's for the US and CS forces.

      Hey All

I spoke to Jeremy Bevard and he said it was good to go to put this out there. The ONV has been allowed to raise a company for the 82 Illinois for this event. All of you boys actually from Illinois ( and Iowa, Indiana, friends East and West and yes even Wisconsin) are invited to join in with us for the event. Those of you who know the ONV know that we will have the highest level of authenticity in kit, drill and attitude, both in camp and the march. I know we are a way a ways from the event but wanted to get the word out and let you know that you have a home with the ONV. If you have any questions about the company or such don't be afraid to PM or email me at rein5553(at)yahoo.com. Hope to see many of you next week at the Picket Post.

Quick update on the status of the event:

We are currently working with Spotsylvania County, the NPS, and local law enforcement to iron out the details of the march. It is taking some time to work out logistics of the march due to heavy traffic congestion along the route resulting from the rapid urban sprawl from Washington. We will continue to work with the necessary entities to secure the route and will provide an additional update as soon as it is available.

          Thank you

Ok folks, Mr. Ferringer has at last spoke with someone from Spotsylvania County. There really are people employed in those offices!
As Pat stated, the logistics and trying to secure permission to conduct the march have been an absolute nightmare, but now we got a few county officials on our side that are more than willing to help push this through.
We will have another update very soon!
Thanks to everyone who has thus far shown interest and has been patient.

              Re: Chaff before the Wind

Fantastic news for everyone who is interested in attending CBTW!
Spotsylvania County Dept. of Tourism has kindly offered their assistance in making this event a success. But the best news of all, is that the Central Virginia Battlefield Trust is now onboard and offered to assist in any way possible.
They will be providing a letter of endorsement for folks to use for raising money. This letter will be available for download on the event website once it is launched.

Thank you for everyone's continued patience!

                  Re: Chaff before the Wind

Folks, after long discussions with Mr. Ferringer and the NPS we have decided that Chaff Before the Wind will be moved to the 155th anniversary weekend. Several factors lead us to this decision; with preservation as our primary goal we did not feel that the current date would allow for enough participation to raise a significant amount of money to make an impact.
With that said, thank you to everyone who has shown interest and please reschedule for May 4-6 2018.

A bit disappointing, but understandable given other events around the same time.

                      Re: Chaff before the Wind

This decision was not made lightly. When we came up with this idea our goal was to raise preservation funds beyond what is normally seen at smaller LH and preservation events. We decided from the start that the preservation money would be divided to benefit the hosting battlefield through one of the various organizations working to acquire land and a second battlefield of our choosing that may not have the same operating budget or is desperate need of funding. Additionally we wanted to make sure this event and the following series of events stands out as an educational resource for the public involved. We want to make efforts to make the event personal for spectators young and old with the intention of narrowing the gap of what is often seen as a distant conflict where the reality of casualties and numbers is often lost on the modern public.

After discussion with the park staff we all agreed that the benefit of waiting until the 155th anniversary was worth it. We will see better participation, the anniversary will bring in more spectators, and logistically the park/county can provide more for an anniversary event.

This event will be bigger and better as planning continues and will result in a sizable donation to two worthy causes. This will not be possible without the participation and help of the authentic community and we will continue to provide updates to keep everyone in the loop and their excitement high for what is going to be an amazing experience. We thank all of you for your continuing interest and are greatly looking forward to May 2018!

Understandable, based on how various factors can affect event planning.

I look forward to attending in 2018.

The postponement gives me time to get my impression up to scratch. This event sounds amazing and even if I cannot attend, thank you for all your work putting it together.

                              Good afternoon folks,

For over two years the Governor Guards have been working to deliver a quality living history at Chancellorsville NMP with a focus on raising considerable funds for battlefield preservation. We quickly realized that with the geographic location of this park it was going to be met with it's own set of unique challenges. Without hesitation, we dressed our lines, fixed bayonets and started the advance.
We were soon met with more than a few obstacle's that impeded our efforts, some of which were quite disappointing to say the least; but yet we still continued forward. Just a few days ago myself and co-organizer had a very long conversation about the current progress of this event and what the projected progress would be six months from now. Neither of us was very hopeful and refused to continue forward with the possibility that it could all fall apart just days before we stepped off.
That said, it is with great sadness that "Chaff Before the Wind" is cancelled with no prospect of us attempting this at a future date.
We would like to extend our most sincere appreciation for all of you expressed your interest in supporting the event. We will however, continue to work with other NPS sites to deliver first rate living histories to educate the public and raise money for preservation.
