Greetings!

This folder has been created for listings and discussion of 2019 EBUFU events. If you are thinking about an event for 2019, or know about an event effort, feel free to throw it out for discussion. We will not be formalizing the 2019 schedule yet, so for now, let's discuss what is in the works, so we can look ahead on the calendar.

Camp Hardee"The mustering of an Army". Pocahontas, Arkansas 2019.

As early as June of 1861 Arkansas regiments began arriving in Pocahontas, AR by order of Governor Henry Rector. Pocahontas and Pitman Ferry on Current River was considered the gateway to the state. Out of Fear of invasion from Missouri by Federal Forces, Rector sent the majority of newly organized regiments to Pocahontas. In July the bulk of the regiments were mustered into Confederate Service and began a regimen of intense training under the watchful eye of Brig Gen William Hardee. Hardee had been ordered to take command of the upper district of the state of Arkansas and to oversee the formation and training a brigade of Infantry. Several notable characters, other than Hardee, that would later make their mark on the pages of history were in Pocahontas during this time, including Patrick Cleburne, and Thomas Hindman. This brigade would leave Arkansas in October of 1861 and most of the regiments would be apart of the famed Cleburne's Division in the Army of Tennesee. Having been in the hobby off and on for 25 years,and more recently dedicated to the progressive side of the hobby, I have noticed the poor level of proficiency in drill that now permeates our hobby. This would be a drill intensive event that would not only be a historically accurate and a very realistic experience, but hopefully also very educational. I am president of the local historic preservation association and would have the full support of my community and access to property that was actually part of the original training camps here in Pocahontas. I would assemble a team of instructors (Officers, NCOs) from the Authentic Community who are known to be the most proficient and knowledgeable of Hardee's Tactics. I would also form an advisory board from among our peers who are most knowledgeable about event coordination, and etc. I have the resources to do this event and would very much like to make this happen in June of 2019. This event would include civilian and militia impressions. Little Rock Frocks and commutation jackets would also be encouraged, as well as shotguns and flintlocks!! This would be similar to the event Mike Comer had at New Madrid in 2015. Please give feedback if interested, I need to start planning!! I am flexible on months of the year, but later in the summer would not be advisable due to heat and MOSQUITOES!!!

I'll put a plug in for James' event proposal. He has talked to me quite a bit and I think it would be an interesting weekend; early war, new recruits etc. I also understand that it will be on the original spot of what was Camp Shaver, where many new recruits did drill and learn the art of being a soldier.

Great scenario Holler! Definitely something different and interesting to look forward to for 2019.

2019 is already started to take shape. After the success of Fort Blakeley last weekend, plans are already in the works for a 2019 event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1317551221669090/.

And the Governor Guards and Mess No. 1 are in discussions for a big one in late fall of 2019 as well. More to come on that one as we continue to work out details.

Federal living history at Petersburg NPS on Friday, July 26th to Sunday, July 29th, 2019. Saturday will be our main effort, and folks can stay through Sunday if desired.
We will portray the 57th Massachusetts Veteran Infantry, which was mustered in Worcester, MA on April 6, 1864. Four months later at the Crater, the regiment numbered seven officers and 91 enlisted. After the Crater, only a single officer and 46 enlisted remained.
