  • Other names for the "western Federal"

Kind of an odd question, I'm searching for nicknames given to the Western Federal soldier in general, perhaps given by eastern Federal soldiers, or maybe even Western rebs. I hope I worded that right ... ?

Re: Other names for the "western Federal"

In Nelson Pinney's, History of the 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, he tells an anacdote of their stay in Washington, D.C. on their way from Tennessee to North Carolina in January 1865. "The garrison in Washington at that time consisted of General Hancock's new veteran corps of new regiments recruited from old soldiers whose terms had expired. Clad in brand new uniforms and glittering with brass ornaments, these "brave men" with their noses elevated in disgust, affected to despise the soiled and ragged "Georgia woodticks" as they deigned to call us."
