Anyone familiar with the provenance? Material? It appears to be collarless, which is something I would have associated with an earlier time, but I am no expert on civilian clothing. Love to hear more about it if someone has some info on the piece.

Folks,
It is important to note that Don takes time out from his busy schedule to put that site together himself. When I was last able to visit his collection he had his front living room converted into a photography studio, and was busy cataloging a friend's collection. Not only has he spent dozens, if not hundreds of hours photographing items in his own collection, but he has brought together items from others to make them available to the general public with no real desire for monetary gain, just a desire to share information.
Don is one of the finest gentlemen in our Civil War community and is unsurpassed in his willingness to share information, documentation, and the fruits of his decades of collecting.
Just some food for thought.

I have always been a fan of his prints and his attention to detail. I have also heard of his collection but never had the pleasure of viewing it. My son and I have about 6 of his prints which I can enjoy after convincing my wife to let me put them up through out the house.
One of his knapsacks is marked with the 9th Vermont. This regiment marked their Enfields and accouterments with their regiment designation. One of my friends has a letter written by one of the company commanders telling how he had spent all day marking the Enfields and the next day they were going to mark their equipment.
He later picked up a 9th Vermont marked Enfield from a Gettysburg dealer. It would be nice to have the knapsack. I bet they were part of a group at one time and were broken up for sale.Last edited by Jimmayo; 05-12-2008, 08:38 PM.Jim Mayo
