  • 135th Gettysburg

    Gentlemen...

Yes, I know it's coming up on the 145th, but I need some factoids on the 135th for an article I'm writing. I've searched a number of places but haven't had any luck on finding these, and thought you guys could help.

First, am I correct in thinking that the 135th G'burg was the largest reenactment ever?

Second, I know they kind of lost count at some point when the walk-ons far outnumbered expectations and registrations, but is there any kind of "official" figure -- or even an accepted estimate -- for how many reenactors took part in the event?

Third, how big was Pickett's charge on Sunday? Anecdotally, I've heard that it was pretty close to full-size vis-a-vis the original. Sure looked like it from my vantage point in the Union lines on the hill.

And finally, does anyone have a figure on how many Union artillery pieces were firing on top of the hill during Pickett's charge?

A lot of strange questions, to be sure, but I figured if anyone would know it'd be the folks here.

    Thanks in advance.
