Pards,
Was just getting out of class a few days ago and felt like going to the campus library. We have some very old books in it. I came across a diary of a Confederate soldier named John Dooley. Dooley was attenting Georgetown when the war broke out and enlisted after his father and brother in the 1st Virginia regiment. He participated in the Battles of South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. He was wounded at Pickett's Charge and captured, where he was sent to Johnson's Island in Ohio. Anyway, what I am getting at is that if any of you can get hold of this book it is an excellent book for getting to know the private soldier in camp, and prison. Dooley also make quite a number of references regarding clothing, rations, types and amounts of supplies, politics, etc. A good first hand source for information on the Confederate soldier. Check it out.
