  • Nipple Wrench for a Pedersoli DBL Barrel Shotgun??

    Gentlemen-

I have looked in vain, and lamented with other Living Historians sharing the same plight. Does anyone who HAS one of these shotguns, have a brand name & model, as well as a source for a nipple wrench that WORKS on this shotgun?

The problem is two-fold. First, the nipples are somewhat taller than what you would see on a cap revolver, etc. Second, although I don't know the exact name of this feature, they appear to be possibly a 'flash shield' which run maybe half way around the nipple. The height and proximity of these, prevent all the common nipple wrenches I have tried from seating on the nipple. (This is also prevented with use of modern wrenches.)

Thank you in advance if you can help all us

    Jay,

You might want to try a Maynard cone wrench. They have a "reverse" cone profile that slips neatly into my original tight scatter gun bolsters. Available from S & S Firearms, 74-11 Myrtle Ave, Glendale NY 11385 Phone 718-497-1100.

    Cordially,

Use a nbr 11 nipple wrench. I bought my shotgun at Cabela's. A nbr 11 will work with shotgun. Dixie gun Works might have one also.

        Roger-

        Thank you for the reply.

I also originally, (before major professional defarbing), bought mine at cabelas.

Do you have a brand name and possibly a model number for this wrench you bought? I have bought and tried several wrenches only to have them too short, etc. I want to be sure if I buy another it doesn't turn into another hassle to return.

        thanks

            Jay,
Where did you get your scattergun defarbed? I'm thinking about getting one myself for use at an upcoming event in MO.

I keep everything. The nipple wrench is packaged under Rightnour Mfg, Co. Product number ML017, Sku 64206 27626. Address on the back of the card Hecla Road, Mingoville, PA 16856.
Hope this helps. As I said I got it at Cabelas in Omaha.
I hope you got a deal on the shotgun. I got the display model for 525.00. I had a couple of nicks on the furniture. All I asked is how much they would knock off because of the nicks. One larger nick down by the butt plate. 20 gauge.
I live fired it last month using my musket powder and regular BBs. From about 25 yards it shoots real good. I do not know how it would shoot defarded. Is the barrel shortened also.

                  Thank you Roger-

You have done a great service here to the many who own this shotgun.

No, I didnt' shorten or bob the barrel. I know there are examples of bobbed or shortened versions in EOG, but from my findings and research this was more cav-based. For the impressions I end up using it which are generally more civilian or early war this would have been the family hunting gun.

Re: Nipple Wrench for a Pedersoli DBL Barrel Shotgun??

I've had one of those Pederosoli shotguns for several years. First thing I did was call Dixie Gun Works and got some musket nipples to fit it. I have a regular nipple wrench that works fine to take the nipples out. The wrench has a small enough diameter so it doesn't interfer with the flash guards. Sorry, but I have no idea as to who made the wrench. If you can't find one thats fitting right, you can always have the outside diameter turned down slightly by a machinist.
I really like being able to use standard musket caps on this shotgun.
                    Maybe this will help.

                      Hey Rick-

Haven't heard from you since BGR, but sounds like I'll be seeing you at Marmadukes coming up. That's going to be the same flavor, but a lot less "Gentlemenly."

Anyway, I had my shotgun defarbed by a gunsmith here in the kc area. I will get you his name and hopefully a number. He did a stellar job and I recommend him.

Re: Nipple Wrench for a Pedersoli DBL Barrel Shotgun??

I just yesterday bought a Pedersoli double barrel 12 gauge from a friend, and was immediately faced with the same problem of not having a nipple wrench to fit it.

A quick delve through my cleaning kit however turned up a Colt nipple wrench, (for my cap 'n ball revolvers), that seems to work just fine, perhaps this may be of some assistance to others faced with the same predicament?

                        Kind regards.
