Cartridge Shelf Life Question

I'm a fairly new member and have been reading and learning a great deal from this site and greatly appreciate the wealth of knowledge shown. I am going to venture out of the shadows with a question about rifled musket cartridges. Did the Army (North or South) have any set time period or shelf life for these. I'm looking for one for both stored in Arsenal Conditions (crated/boxed) and field supply dumps (still in crates/boxes). Thanks,
