Re: What would you like to experiance at future events?

We have re-done Picketts Mill, we have re-done TAG in one shape or another. I would like for us to re-think Port Gibson. Go back and re-think the march, and battle. I know a UNIT that may be up for the job in putting it on.

Re: What would you like to experiance at future events?

For what it is worth, if folks are interested in an event that sounds like this, and are willing to travel a little ways....

A construction event where we portray and unit coming up and building works.

      1. Arrive Friday evening and begin digging and cutting. Pickets out

      2. As the sunrises we all have to live in what we dug the previous night. Pickets out and all day work done below the trenchline

      3. Saturday night we again dig and cut and build

      4. Sunday we live in what we made until noon then head straight for a shower and a chiropractor.
Take a look in the events section for an NPS event Nic Clark is proposing for Pea Ridge. Additionally, a pair of events much further to the east, one in 2009, and one in 2010 on the same piece of private property, with the 2010 effort taking shape as an extended play event, much like the duration of Winter 1864. The latter two events are in the conceptual phase, and are not yet listed on the AC Forum; however, if you are interested, you know where to send an email expressing such.

Re: What would you like to experiance at future events?

I was headed to Pea Ridge / WIG to spectate earlier this year but the weather kept us back.

I had prepped heavy on the Van Dorn and other research in anticipation.

An event with these type activities:

A construction event where we portray and unit coming up and building works.

        1. Arrive Friday evening and begin digging and cutting. Pickets out

        2. As the sunrises we all have to live in what we dug the previous night. Pickets out and all day work done below the trenchline

        3. Saturday night we again dig and cut and build
Put on by Nic Clark and those pards he had images struck with would be great to spectate. Mr. Clark and the group he runs with truly look like they stepped out of time. In my eyes these ole boys set the bar at a level every "authentic" should strive for.

        My highest of complements.

Re: What would you like to experiance at future events?

To expand upon some thoughts I’ve picked up on here and there in the thread. Good timing though, as I’ve been thinking about this lately. Hopefully I can explain it well.

I’d like to see an event that really focused on the taking of prisoners and removal of them to the rear lines. Not so much a prisoner event, as in they are already gathered and are guarded for the weekend. What I envision might involve recreating the very end of a skirmish/battle or an aggressive advance upon the enemy, with prisoners being picked up along the way….individuals or in groups. A good number would be occupied with the advance, with an eventual stopping point or goal…while others would be busy moving or guarding prisoners in the rear. Prisoners might see a variety of sights on the way to the rear…more advancing companies, looting (as previously mentioned), HQ, wounded/dead, etc, etc There would be no releasing of the prisoners after the battle to do it again the next day. They may stay a night in a stationary location, but they’re off the next morning further to the rear..

I suppose all of this would take a good amount of participants.

Of course, one could really ambitious with the scenario, include wounded prisoners and troops being cared for at the same field hospital, throw in a historic/period homestead and for real dreamers, a rail line to send the prisoners off on! I suppose the latter is unrealistic.

I know some of this has been done before, but I'm not certain if it has on the scale I am thinking of. At the last "Outpost" prisoners were taken, but it seems that they were eventually released before the event was done. I know for that event, it had to be done...but I think it would be interesting if there was a location a few miles away they could have been sent for the remainder of the event.

Have an event that is not based on any historical event per se just call it "Parking Lot 20_ _" where we all sit around in period clothes and drink ourselves silly. Event ends Sunday afternoon. Activities featuring good food, cherry bounce, and good beer.
Shoal Creek style? I'm in! That is, if girls are allowed. ;)
