  • One Day, One Man Show At Ft. Negley-20 Sept.

    Gentlemen,

Many of you are aware of the LH program I am putting together for November. Well... the Metro Nashville Parks Dept have proposed a program as described below. It sounds like a promising presentation, with lots of potential. Hopefully this effort, along with the LH program in November, will both work towards getting the site the much needed attention it deserves.

If any of you are interested, please PM or e-mail me. If no one else steps up, I can cover this, but I wanted to offer the opportunity to others first.

    Hi Brian,
We have a need for an actor for a program on Saturday Sept. 20 to portray Sgt. John Hill Ferguson. He was with the 10th Ill and was garrisoned at Negley. He wrote a diary of his experiences so we have alot of first-person material to draw from. This is part of a series called "Discover Civil War Nashville." The actor will give a 20 minute monologue at the top of the fort at 11am and 1pm. We plan to have the setting as Sgt. Ferguson in a post-war setting relating his experiences, thus it will be possible for the actor to use note cards so as not to remember so many lines.

This is a little different from a typical re-enactment, but I wanted to touch base with you to see if anyone in your group may be interested. Carolyn German of the Metro theater dept. will be directing the production. Together we will be working on the script. Please let me know ASAP if you think someone may be interested in volunteering.

    Best,
    Rob DeHart

hey Brian- they mention a diary by Ferguson-has it been published? If so it would make a good research source to help flesh out portrayal details for the LH in November. If it hasn't been published maybe you could get and post a transcript of the relevant parts for those of us planning on attending.

      Outstanding recommendation!

I'll inquire as to the availability of the Diary. If not publicly available, I'll work to get excerpts of it posted as a research aid for our November event.
