Looking for Source for Federal Broadcloth...

I am looking for a source for period-correct wool broadcloth, similar to the New Hampshire frock coat in Echoes of Glory. (By period-correct I mean a broadcloth which will not fade purple due to the use of red in the blue dye.) This material is predominantly blue, but has that almost greenish hue or faded aspect. I know Nic ************'s fabric achieves this, but I am not aware of any others.

I am not familiar with the NH frock, but Hainsworth broadcloth is very fine material. However, it currently sells for $125/yard at Needle and Thread. The one saving grace is that the bolt is quite wide.

I just made a frock coat out of Dan Wambaugh Fedreal blue Kersey. While its not a broad cloth it did the job! I'm also sure this will not fade to a purple, great stuff!

If you're talking about John Currier's (6th New Hampshire Infantry) state-issued frock then you'll want something other than broadcloth. It's actually made using a material that very closely resembles flannel. In places where the finish has worn down it looks almost identical to the lightweight, lightly finished flannel that I observed in the Geo. Spaulding jacket (Illinois state issue). Currier's frock also has light-blue piped shoulder tabs under the metal scales.

I don't understand the "green tinged" fabric request though; I've seen Currier's frock in person and it definitely does not have any green in it. For that you'll probably have to top-dye your stuff in a weak yellow bath.

I had two Federal Frock Coats made from broadcloth that I purchased from 96th District Fabrics. Their site is at: http://www.96storehouse.com/cat/index.php
Their Federal English Broadcloth does not fade and retains it's color. It is also very reasonable at under $30 a yard. I purchased the first cloth for my Junior Federal Frock at $15 per yard and the last for my Officer's Frock was right at $30 per yard. You may have to call them as their site is still not finished but the contact number is on the site.

Brian- Thanks! Glad you have seen it. That is a rather interesting garment.

John- Yes, LOVE the Hainsworth and have all their swatch books from my association/relationship with the Steamboat Arabia. Would love to go that route but know the price is steep.

Dan and Brian have some nice stuff too, but just checking out all the options. At the major events, we prodominantly do ProSouthern impressions so I haven't approached this item in the past.
