Linseed Oil.......Hazardous!

    When I rebuilt my Enfield, I used seven coats of Daler-Rowney Purified Linseed Oil. Got it in Wal-Mart. There are no health warnings on it.

      Not to sound too much of a synic...but in this day in age...What doesn't "Cause Cancer"? I challenge everyone to go to any Hardware Store, Grocery Store, Department Store...etc., and read the warnings "Warning, in the State of California, this substance has been known to Cause Cancer".

      Warning labels on nearly all chemicals/solvents today, warn to USE IN WELL-VENTILATED AREAS, LIMIT OVER-EXPOSURE (until cured), DO NOT INGEST, DO NOT GET IN EYES...etc.

      As mentioned earlier...in neary all oil-based paints (commercially available in most States), Linseed Oil is the medium used for applying said pigments to your surface of choice. How many houses have burned down as a result of the properties of the rapid release of heat produced from the drying of oil-based paint? (note: This does NOT include the rag used to wipe up spilled paint/oil and thrown in the corner to dry, in a contained "non-ventilated" corner, the cause of that fire would be the IMPROPER DISPOSAL of said rag).

      Mods. Please shut this one down.

        Hallo!

        Moderator hat on...

        I believe this thread has long past and outlived its value (combustion hazard of improperly disposed of linseed oil rags mostly), and needs to be closed.

        Otherwise we drift into defenses of Fabery, the hazards of the governmental acceptable level of arsenic in our tap water or the very real personal choices of risking skin cancer when we reenact in sunlight.

          Food Safe Linseed Oil

          I did a search and could not find it. I remember a thread from last fall and I thought it mentioned a specific product, but the threads I pulled up did not mention the brand. If you know of any food safe brands of linseed oil I would appreciate it.

          BTW - I am not dragging up the Linseed Oil argument. All that needs to be posted is the names and maybe a link. Thanks for you help.
