  • Loyalist Arms Lorenz

Ok, I'm just going to throw this out here for the wolves. I've been looking and I really can't find any threads where anybody has discussed this. Has anybody bought one of these, and have any opinions of them. The big things that stick out to me are the barrel caliber, and it is smoothbore rather than rifled. And the barrel is short, and several more subtle differences, lockplate shape, cheekpiece, etc.

    Thanks all!

I purchased one of the Loyalists arms 1858 Lorenz from a blackpowder arms dealer in Little Rock. The one I have was a smoothbore, now rifled. It is like the Armi Sports & Euro Arms out of the box, not the most authentic, however, I am pleased with mine. There are others here that know much more about that particular weapon than I. Read the other posts then decide.

There was a considerable thread on the Loyalist Arms' Lorenz on www.n-ssa.org a while back. Appears these are hammered-out on flat rocks by reasonably skilled Asian craftsmen. No two exactly alike. Springs, etc. often soft. Dimensions approximate. Don't recall bayonet availability. A deal of concern about safety, even w/ blank charges.
I acquired my shootable original Lorenz at a Knoxville gunshow for under $300.00 perhaps 20 years ago when they were the red-headed stepchildren of collectors and under-appreciated by reenactors. Times ain't now like they used to was.
The Lorenz is a great piece, can swing both ways: Union and (especially) western Reb. It's a handy weapon, comparatively light, much like a two-band Enfield. Were I to acquire a replica, I'd have the springs hardened, organize a bayonet and have it fitted, AND HAVE HOYT OR WHITACRE PRESS A STEEL LINER INTO THE BARREL.

Remember the search tool, folks! This reproduction has been discussed quite heavily in the past: http://www.authentic-campaigner.com/...+lorenz&page=5

As I said back then: It only looks like a Lorenz if I squint at the screen.
It has been weighed, measured, and found wanting.
