  • Serious Fire In Montecieto/santa Barbara Ca

    HI All,

No doubt you have heard on the news abaut the big fire in Santa Barbara California.

My brother Tom Smith (signs in as Tomarch) and I have parents who live right in the middle of the fire zone. The fire started above their neighborhood not too far away.

They were evacuated safely with the help of my brother, but we don't know what has become of their house & neighborhood ( we will know later today.)

I'd peronally appreciate prayers on their & other folks in the areas behalf.

    Thank you

Dang Don, hope things are going to be OK. Does this fire threaten the Mission? How about Dom - he lives in Goleta right?

            Hi All,

Just got word from my folks that the fire has bypassed their house and the surounding houses, althought Westmont Colleage behind my folks hous had class rooms burn and a Dorm.

Last I heard the fire could threaten the Old Mission ( Only CA Mission circa 1803 to have 2 Bell towers). The fire has gotten to the Riviera behind the Mission last I knew from my brother Tom. The fire last I heard is working its way around the city.

I don't think Dom Dal Bello has been effected as he lives on the other side of town in Goleta, although his Mom lives just down the hill from my folks.

Hi Folks: Thanks to all concerning the safety of our parents. My wife and I spent last night helping them to evacuate. So far their house is O.K. and not likely to be in danger. The Old Mission should not be in any trouble either as it is on the outer edge of the manditory evacuation area. The "Tea Fire" is still burning out here and has done in around 100 homes and burnrd about 2,500 ac. since 5:30 p.m. last night. All the firefighters here in So. Cal. have done a magnificent job (as always!) Including nighttime helicopter water drops.Although my heart goes out to all those who lost homes, no historic resourses are threatened at this time. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers

                Hi Tom,

                Thanks for the update!

Do you know if the fire got around to where Alameda Padre Sara Street is, where it forks into Barker Pass? Dom's Mom lives at No 16 APS St

Don: The fire started up at the "tea house" then swept down around the north end of Westmont. It then ran down the east side of the campus over to Coyote Cyn. then down to Sycamore Cyn. then up Stanwood (over by Sheffield resevoir and then over the hill on the Rivera. Dom's mother's house is away from those areas and is safe.
