  • Pre 1859 sewing machine

Does anyone know a source for original sewing machines? I am looking for a pre 1859 machine but I'm trying to be realistic with my expectations. The Haversack Depot does not have any machines right now. :o

    Be well everyone!

The period dry good store in Burketsville MD sells them. Sorry... I can't remember the name of the store or the owner... but I know someone in here will chime in.

Paul Gilligan, I think still owns the store.

I would check eBay for machines . Something cool usually shows up on a regular basis.

              Mam'm ,

Its worth your while to wait for Mr. Cavanagh to have a machine that meets your needs in stock. What you'll get is a machine that works, and works well, with no fuss, access to instruction books, and maybe even attachments for the machine.

You may see some on ebay for far less--I'm certainly no sewing machine mechanic, and the one sitting under my Great Wheel is a testimony to that.

The machine restored by Mr. C though--it works just fine.

You might give Michael Totten of Madison, Indiana a try. Last year he had somewhere around 12 - 18 early machines for sale.

This is a bit off topic, but since all are on the topic of antique sewing machines, does anyone know someone who could use antique parts? I've got boxes and boxes and could use the space in the garage.:( Please PM me if interested.

Thank you Mr. Crabb. There was a time when I had 18 handcrank machines in my shop for people to use, plus boxes of parts. Now that I'm older I am at that age where I want to clear out stuff. Sorry, all but 5 of the machines are gone, and those are few 5 promised away.:( Still, I very much appreciate the information for someone interested with the remaining parts.
