  • Rebel Yell Recording

someone sent this to me last night and I found it somewhat entertaining. Have a listen to it and then reflect on the yells you have heard at reenactments.

That was an interesting premise they had to modify it. I will tell you what though, if I was in line in the dark early dawn and heard that by the thousands, I'd have peed my britches...

Until I heard our battalion of 150 charging uphill at McDowell in 2005, I never thought much of the Yankee Hurrah. Still gives me chills when I think about it. We couldn't have been as loud as we were. Our voices must have been assisted by those who made that same growl on that same location during the war. The deep throated growl from a thousand or two folks in a brigade would have been just as intimidating as that high pitched hi-yi and yip about which I've read.

I'd really like to hear a thousand guys of either persuasion charging with their particular yell or growl. Don't think I'd like to hear the groan of folks at the receiving end of a battery firing canister.

I heard this for my first time when I was doing a Living History at the MOC with Chris Grimes. However im almost positive the recording we listend to also had a regiment and a batallion level recording.
