  • My son

    Hello all,
I don't many or that is most. I was out of reenacting for about years. However I am not new to the hobby. I began in 1981. I have two sons, one of whom is severly autistic and has a very rare chromisonal disorder, partial Trisomy 14p.
Since Oct. of 2008 he has been at Kennedy Krieger Inst. (Johns Hopkins Children Hosp.) in Baltimore. He is being treated to problems related to his autism. Today I was told Justin was sick and has a very high fever. He can not talk or do many of the things we take for granted.
One thing I learned while in reenacting was that there MANY people who shared each others concerns, hopes, joys and pains. I always took great pride in my involvement with my unit. Many knew about Justin and my other son accompained me to certain family related functions. I live 3 hour drive from Baltimore, so it makes it very difficult to be there all the time when I feel I should be.Such as an unexpected illness. I would ask for your prayers and kind thoughts for my son during his illness. It is greatly appreciated. I hope one to personally thank some of you as I get back into our common cause in reenacting.

    Sincerely,

Ditto. Our prayers are with you, and your son. My best memories of reenacting are the outings with my Dad. They still are.

There are several of us on this forum who are the parents of autistic children and share that bond with you. I am blessed to have a son who is high-functioning autistic (Asperger's Syndrome), so I haven't had the same pain as you and your family, but that won't stop me and others here from keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

God be with you and your son, as our prayers will be. I am blessed with two sons, and can understand the pain of having an ill child. I am amazed every day how much I love my children, (even when the 13 yo is driving me nuts) and can't imagine what it would be like with out them, and sit amazed at how time passes (our baby is 1 year old next Sunday). Our children (our being the family of man) are such wonderful gifts... Thank God for them, and may He keep you and your family in His hands, as we keep you in our prayers

I work with autistic children here in Australia. I'm not getting rich, but it's the most rewarding work I've ever done. Every day is a journey of discovery, and they've helped me learn lots about myself...and about life. I send the prayers of myself and my family to you, Justin, and your family. I've heard it said that "God only sends 'special' kids to special people". Well, they're all pretty special to me. My wife and I have 7 healthy kids. Sometimes they're a handful, ranging from a 2 year old to a soldier in the Australian army. Not bad for an old Georgia redneck. The Bible says that your kids are like a quiver full of arrows. Sounds good to me..... God Bless you and yours Brent. I remain,

                          Brent,

Myself and all the 2nd Delaware will pray for your son. I was in your pretty town of Chrisfield last March for a Banjo camp. Do you know Pat and Patrick Costello of Chrisfield? I say this because they are great Family people and may be a good source to talk to. Just a suggestion and again I hope your son gets better.

                            Hello all,
First off thank you very much for the support and prayers for Justin. I just got off work and spoke with the nurse at Kennedy Krieger. I was told Justins temprature had broke and he was doing better. Again, thank you. It meant a lot.
Dedogtent, I know of Pat Costello, he has some really great banjo classes on You-Tube. He makes it look so easy and has a great reputation. My son should be coming home mid February. God bless all of you!
