  • "A" Tent specs

I'm looking for some specs on the wedge or "A" tent. So far, the search has proved fruitless. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Ron,

There was an earlier thread somewhere on the AC where we covered it...BUT I have it on my work computer. If someone here doesn't beat me to it I will get that on here on Thursday when I am back in the office.

Also Steve Allie at the Frontier Army Museum at Fort Leavenworth used to make handsewn authentic copies back in the day...might try and see if he's still up to it.

      Found it!

Here is the original thread about wall tents, then the last post is mine about wedges.

Thank you all VERY much. Stephen Osman forwarded me the pages from the unpublished 1865 QM manual last night, but I (and I am sure quite a biot of others) are glad its posted here...to add to it:

Description of Common Tent (that would be the A-Tent)

      Height-6'10"
      Length or Ridge-6'10"
      Width-8'4"
      Height of Door-5'6"
Width of Door-1 foot at bottom 9 inches at top
From top of ridge to lower edge of roof, when pitched, 8 feet 1/2 inch.

      Sod Cloth-9inches in width

          Re: "A" Tent specs

Wow! This is awesome, as I was just beating my head against a wall trying to find this very information! Is there anywhere to obtain a copy of this QM manual? Is there any mention of material and construction techniques?

Contact the Quartermaster Museum in Fort Lee Virginia!
They might be able to send you a copy.
