Have you tried calling S & S Sutler in Gettysburg, I know Tim was in a Zouave unit and I think he has some in stock from time to time, I don't know if it's to the specific unit you are looking for.

      Shelby,

This is not likely to be something that a full-time vendor will have in-stock. They probably won't even have it in their catalog. You will probably have to look around for someone with some experience and have them make it for you. There are probably patterns floating around out there, but you might even have to have someone make a pattern. Who knows!?

I don't intend my note to be discouraging. Rather, I just think you'll need to do some legwork to find pattern and materials and someone to put them together for you. There are a number of folks on the AC who've put zoave uniforms together, so it shouldn't be excessively hard to do.

Appreciat the replies guys. I mean the 165th Ny fought hard at Pleasant Hill LA which the event my unit puts on every year the first weekend in April and there are never any damn Zouaves there, so me even if I am a one man stand I wanna have one ready by 2010!

Try Chris Dailey, he has apparently done some work with Zouave uniforms before. Although I do belive that the uniforms were from the AoP. Or check with the Ground Hornets they do a Zouave impression, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

          Hope that helps,

I think it's the 10th Texas that does the dual 165th NY impression at Port Hudson? I'm having a local seamstress tackle some uniform pieces for mainstream presentations I will help with this summer -- but plan my main focus to be Iowegian and Sucker for the foreseeable future.

Tim Sheads from S&S can probably help you out. He is from a Zouave unit and is currently working on putting one together for an exhibit at a museum.

                      Re: Zouave Uniforms!

It is indeed the 9th Texas who does the Zouave impression. The 15th (Texas Ground Hornets) does not now, nor has ever done such an impression. Actually, I believe many or most of us don't do any Federal impression.

The 9th is a bunch of good guys. Ask them about their uniform source. If I recall correctly, they produce most of it themselves.

Can't some of our good friends send us some tobacco? We intend to "hang up our stockings." if they can't send tobacco, please send us the seed, and we will commence preparing the ground; for we mean to defend this place till h-ll freezes over, and then fight the Yankees on the ice.

                        Re: Zouave Uniforms!

Well I found a pattern today at my house in the god aweful collection of patterns we have that is for the 165th, but now the question is, material. My dad and I were discussing if we should get it from Charlie Childs. He always has the good stuff. But bow the question it seems is where to buy the leather leggings. I can make the canvas gaiters.

I'm undergoing the same search for proper materials, etc. for a late-war 155th Pennsylvania Infantry uniform. Someone told me that Nick Duvall has done the leather jambieres before. Try contacting him or Tim Sheads at S&S Sutlery.

Contact Phil Cavenaugh of the Haversack Depot. He was making the Jambieres a few years ago and he was with the Zouaves some years back.
