  • C.J. Daley Sack Coat and Pants Seminar

Just finished the two day C.J. Daley Sack Coat and Pants seminar.
    A quick review.
The seminar was held at the Bruton Heights Education Center which is run by Colonial Williamsburg. We had a room available that was set up where each participant had their own work table, with an area set aside for the sewing machine and for the ironing tables.
The seminar started promptly at nine for the nine participants. At each workstation was a neatly tied bundle that held your pre cut projects. We got right to work. We had a quick overview of the process and C.J. had one of the participants who is a tailor at Colonial Williamsburg show us how to do a buttonhole.
With that we got right to work and once again it was an eye opening experience. It took over an hour to do three button holes on the two piece fly. C.J. had allowed that the participants could make a variety of projects. I worked on a J.T. Martin trowsers and sack coat.
The amount of hand work necessary for these simple federal garmets gives you an appreciation for what some of our better clothing makers are turning out.
Throughout it all C.J. was there to answer questions, and .
show where you where you were going wrong.
At the end of sixteen hours I wound up with a pair of trowsers and a sack coat that I am extremely proud of.
If he offers any more seminars I would strongly urge you to attend if you can.
